Why oh why are religious people so obsessed with homosexuality? I am yet to hear one decent argument as to why a same-gender relationship is bad for the world. If the Bible is all you have (and that isn’t even clear), go home, get some better material and re-think!
We know it has always existed (the Greeks voted it second best thing behind Feta) and it often occurs in nature (‘Biological Exuberance’ – no less than 470 animal species are at and the activities of orangutans would make Graham Norton blush[1]).
So, that’s two arguments blown. What about the fact that so few ‘suffer from the illness’, ‘it is contrary to natural law’. In a civilized society the number of openly gay people increases and, I dare say, there’s a huge number of people living in less than tolerant countries who are not even able to declare their preference. Of course, I define ‘natural’ as self-enforced celibacy whilst hearing voices from my imaginary friend in the sky …
That’s ‘natural’ covered. Morality next! For me, it’s a simple one: does it bother me; does it harm me; or the planet; or society? No on all counts. Reproduction is an issue, but frankly, as discussed elsewhere, there are way too many of us on the planet anyway, so in a world of diminishing assets, a lower birth rate might do us all some good.
Unsurprisingly, the Catholic Church has not once been able to isolate any ill-effects of safe sex between consenting gay adults, other than to suggest that its acceptance might “deprave” or “corrupt” other people. What this appears to mean is that they might be led away from the teachings of the Church. Hmmm, tragic!
Mecca, The Vatican and Texas just can’t seem to understand this, which surely must imply that they are struggling with their own sexuality. Come on, we all know that that’s how it works!
Practicing homosexuality is entirely acceptable, moral and natural. The same can not be said of the actions of religious leaders.
